A customer clicks "buy." A package ships. Then it comes back.
In fashion e-commerce, this cycle repeats millions of times a day — and every return costs more than it looks. Restocking, reverse logistics, and lost resale value add up fast. For most online fashion retailers, return rates sit between 20% and 40%. At that scale, returns aren't a customer service issue — they're a profitability crisis.
The damage goes beyond shipping. Returned items often can't be resold at full price. Inventory systems lag, causing phantom stockouts and missed sales. And yet, generous return policies are now expected. Tighten them and you lose customers. Keep them and you bleed margin.
The solution isn't to eliminate returns. It's to stop the ones that shouldn't happen in the first place.
